of the valuable aspects of the Civil War from a historian’s perspective is that it coincided with the
development and widespread use of photography.
Many pictures are available from the era that help
us interpret things we find archaeologically. Several images show vessels that were moored
together in parallel to form a make-shift wharf in an arrangement that appears similar to the two hulls
above.
