    centerboard vessel

Also nearby is a centerboard vessel, possibly a schooner.

Although close to the channel of the river and submerged beneath 3-5 feet of water at high tide, the vessel was completely exposed at the seasonal low tide.

The vessel lies upright with the lowest portion of the hull buried in the bottom silts.   Deadwood at one end, possibly the bow, can be seen in the foreground of the photo image above.   The centerbox or trunk is present along the midline of the hull.

The centerboard also survives, although it was found in several pieces.   The pintle or spindle on which the centerboard pivoted remains in place, as seen in the detailed image below.

We hope to return sometime in the near future to map the wreck.
