The crew was rescued by boats from the harbor.   Fowke was not on board at the time, the ship being under temporary command of Lieutenant Henry Whitby.

Court Martial in the 18th-century

Whitby and the ship’s Master, Luke Winter, were court martialed in Martinique.   Whitby was found negligent and reduced in rank; Winter, in charge of navigation, was found to have ignored standing orders regarding the bearings for safe approach to the Philipsburg harbor and was dismissed from the Navy.
